No worries, no hassle.

Dia dos en Peru!

Last night we ventured out with Ronal, our friend who works at the hostal, and some of Leah´s friends from last year. We went to a pretty nice club, about 15 mins taxi from the hostal. They played very different music.. White Stripes, Kaiser Chiefs, Pheonix, Peter, Bjorn and John.. very Western anyways. The Peruvian guys didn´t know how to dance to it all but us girls were definetly ripping up the dance floor (actually the group of us took over the stage for most of the night!)

But another late night meant another sleep in so we started the day later again today. After breakfast, we went to the markets close to our hostal. They had a variety of things, lots of good souvenir ideas that I will probably be back for. Today, the mission for most of us was to find journals to write all our thoughts and activities in. We did find them and we all compared our bargaining skills after (Ryan won, although Rory did well too). It was an interesting experience for me because when I was in Ghana, we got hassled sooo much when we went out for things like that. So many people talking to you, pulling on you ect. Today was just so chill, people did talk to us but just much more relaxed. We strolled through without gaining all that much attention and it was pretty nice to go fairly unnoticed. I would feel comfortable going there by myself.. although I´m pretty terrible at bartering.

We just walked around for a bit after and went through this nice park near the central area. They have a lot of nice parks there, they seem to take pride in their gardens and green grass. Also, tons of stray cats! Steph and Rory went to see them and they think they understood that the cats live in the trees and come down to get food. We came across a huge gathering of people and saw that there would be a show happening. We sat with everyone and watched a magic type show. Difficult to follow the Spanish.. we definetly missed a lot of jokes but it was super entertaining none the less. Steph had the guy pull something out of her ear, hilarious. We ate at a restaurant very close to there and most of us tried to get seafood, as it is Lima´s specialty. I got this strange potato thing with this lime and chili cream sauce and prawns. Carley had an awesome fish dish that I wished I got but I get a little sketch at restaurants with the gluten stuff. I did pretty well with my spanish explaining the allergy though! And I tried Peruvian ceviche.. that was a first. Defs not my favourite but glad I tried!

We stopped at the ¨Plaza Vea¨on the way home (super market type) and got some snacks. Now we are just relaxing for the evening, which is nice.

Leah heard from IFEJANT, our organization here, finally so we should be starting work tomorrow, or more likely on Tuesday. We´re hoping to head to their office and meet with them and get a better sense of what our work will be this trip. Most of us are very eager to get to work.. I´m really excited for it!

Feliz dia mama to all the mothers out there, especially mine as I have missed this day two years in a row now. Love you!

Buenos Noches!
